Book description

Fascia is the soft tissue component of the connective tissue system that permeates the human body. It forms a whole-body, continuous three-dimensional matrix of structural and biochemical support. It interpenetrates and surrounds all organs, muscles, bones and nerve fibers, creating a unique environment for body systems functioning.

There is a substantial body of research on connective tissue generally focused on specialized genetic and molecular aspects of the extracellular matrix. The study of fascia, and its function as an organ of support, has rapidly advanced since the First International Fascia Research Congress held in 2007, and subsequent Congresses held in 2009 and 2012.

This book provides the most up-to-date developments in fascia research for scientists involved in the examination of the body's connective tissue matrix (fascia), as well as an organised compendium for professionals involved in the therapeutic manipulation of this body-wide structural fabric. It includes published papers from a wide range of journals and abstracts presented at the Fourth International Fascia Research Congress: Basic Science and Implications for Conventional and Complementary Healthcare, September 18-20, 2015, near Washington DC (www.fasciacongress.org/2015).

Fascia Research IV includes the most up-to-date information on traditional sections including:
• Anatomy
• Biomechanics
• Cytology and Histolog
• Pathology
• Fluid Dynamics
• Muscle, Fascia & Manual Therapy
• Surgery and Scars
• Low Back Pain and Innervat
• Research Methods & New Hypotheses in Fascia

Fascia Research IV extends upon these to include the latest scientific findings from new categories including:

• Cancer
• Veterinary and Animal Models
• Assessment Modalities
• Fascia in Sport and Movement
• Special Considerations in Fascia
